As your advertisement indicated, the position of Public Safety Director/Chief of Police requires an individual with a strong law enforcement leadership background, as well as a complete understanding of the many unique challenges facing the City of New York. A life-long resident of New Yorkwith more than 20 years as a certified law enforcement professional, I am the best-qualified candidate to continue the effective police leadership the city has received.

  • You require 10 years of law enforcement experience with at least 5 years at the administrative and command level. Additionally, you require a proven record of leadership, including successful labor management experience. I have a 16-year record of effective leadership and management that has included (1) command-level planning and organizing; (2) supervision of 40 employees and delegation of authority; (3) efficient administration of resources; (4) communication and successful relations with union-represented and nonrepresented employees, staff, and constituents; and (5) the involvement of others in consensus building and decision making. My experience covers several functional and specialty areas including patrol, detective bureau/investigation, court services, tactical enforcement, school/police liaison efforts, and search/rescue.
  • You require a demonstration of community-oriented policing experience. Throughout my tenure with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, I have directed and/or served in community policing initiatives including command of the school/police liaison program; direction of law enforcement service contracts, direction of the police honor guard unit, and command of the search-and-rescue dive team.
  • You require a demonstration of budgeting experience. Over the last 15 years, I have assisted with the development of operational and capital budgets, as well as examining and reallocating resources to achieve higher return on investment.
